The time of life is short; to spend that shortness basely, it would be too long. The busier we are, the more acutely we feel that we live, the more conscious we are of life. Life consists not in holding cards, but in playing well those you hold. To live remains an art which everyone must learn, and which no one can teach. It is the bounty of nature that we live, but of philosophy that we live well, which is, in truth, a greater benefit than life itself. How beautiful is youth! How bright it gleams with its illusion, aspirations, dreams! There is a limit to one’s youth, but no limit to his wisdom. Draw on the limitless wisdom during the short span of youth. Youth is life’s seed-time. It is a great art to do the right thing at the right season. Old ages is like everything else, to make a success of it, you’ve got to young. Heroic lives are inspired by heroic ambitions, and the young man who thinks there is nothing important to be done is pretty sure to do nothing important. Ideal is the beacon. Without ideal, there is no secure direction; without direction, there is no life. Don not part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live. Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That can not fly Hold fast to dreams For where dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow Great works are performed not by strength but perseverance. Difference between the impossible and possible lies in a person’s determination. Far better it is to dare mighty things, even though checked by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much. The very reputation of being strong-willed, plucky, and indefatigable is of priceless value. Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don not recognize them. Calamity is the perfect glass wherein we truly see and know ourselves. Adversity is the trial of principle. Without it, a man hardly knows whether he is honest or not. Adversity brings men to their senses, and show them what must be done; but prosperity is apt to turn men, in the excess of their joy, aside from the path of cool deliberation and sound judgement. If you wish to succeed, you should use persistence as your good friend, experience as your reference, prudence as your brother and hope as your sentry. Carry on! Fight the good fight the true; believe in your mission, greet life with a cheer; there’s big work to do, and that’s why you are here. Carry on! Let the world be the better for you; and at last when you die, let this be your cry: carry on, my soul! Carry on! As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live. If you doubt yourself, then indeed you stand on shaky ground. Shallow men believe in luck. Self-trust is the first secret of success. The world belongs to the enthusiast who keeps cool. God helps them that help themselves. Welcome evermore to gods and men is the self-helping man. For him all doors are flung wide; him all tongues greet, all honors crown, all eyes follow with desire. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for circumstances they want and if they cannot find them, make them. Self-reverence, self-knowledge, self-control, these three alone lead life to sovereign power. The man who is above his business may one day find his business above him. Prosperity is not without many fears and disasters, adversity is not without comforts and hopes. I have not become downhearted or low-spirited. Life is every-where life, life is ourselves, not in what is outside us. There will be people near me, and to be a man among people and reman a man for ever, not to be downhearted not to fall in whatever misfortunes may befall me- this is life; this is the task of life. Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount. Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has courage to lose sight of the shore. The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won’t. You are your greatest enemy if you are a coward; but if you are brave, you are your greatest friend. It has been said that half the failure in life arise from pulling in one’s horse while he is leaping. 不假思索,不三思,不小心就行动不是courage. 我有一点其实是很自豪的,就是我很爱国。 The secret of happiness is this: let your interests be as wide as possible; and let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you as far as possible friendly rather than hostile. A certain amount of care or pain or trouble is necessary for every man at all times! A ship without a ballast is unstable and will not go straight. Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. Reading makes a full man, meditation a profound man, discover a clear man. He who labours diligently need not despair; for all things are accomplished by diligence and labour. In the last analysis, ability is commonly found to consist mainly in a high degree of solemnity. Don not aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally. Work banishes those three great evils: boredom, vice, and poverty. When I look back at the past and think how much time has been wasted in vain, how much time was lost in delusions, in errors, in idleness, in ignorance of how to live, how I did not value time, how often I sinned against my heart and spirit – my heart bleeds. Victory won’t come to me unless I go to it. Idleness is justly said to be the rust of the mind and an idle brain is said to be Satan’s workshop. Does thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of. What is the fastest while the slowest , the longest while the shortest, the most ordinary while the most valuable, ignored most easily while most regrettable in the world is time. 时间是生命,延长生命更宝贵,爱护你的身体吧,我多么希望40岁时也能像20岁。 Make use of time if thou loves eternity; yesterday cannot be recalled; tomorrow cannot be assured; only today is thine, which if thou procrastinate, thou lost; and which lost forever. One today is worth two tomorrow. I believe the first test of a truly great man is his humility. Wherever he is satisfied with what he does, he has reached his culminating point, he will progress no more. Pride, ill nature, and want of sense are the three great sources of ill manners. After the verb to love, to help is the most beautiful verb in the world. If the first law of friendship is that it has to be cultivated, the second law is to be indulgent when the first law has been neglected. First love is only a little foolishness and a lot of curiosity. Love unexpressed is sacred. It shines like gems in the gloom of the hidden heart. Love is like measles, we take only once. One never need be afraid of catching it a second time. Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind. Love is not getting, but giving; not a wild dream of pleasure, and a madness of desire- oh, no, love is not that- it is goodness, and honor, and peace and pure living. Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction. True love should do; it cannot speak; for truth has better deeds than words to grace it. Nothing in life is as good as the marriage of true minds between man and woman. A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
